Dr Lainas is a Consultant Reproductive Gynecologist, the Scientific Director of Eugonia IVF Clinic, Athens, Greece and an honorary clinical fellow at Barts NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK. He obtained his doctorate (PhD) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Medical School.
Since July 2019, he holds the position of the Co-ordinator of the Special Interest Group (SIG) of “Reproductive Endocrinology” of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (SIG-RE of ESHRE). He is also a member of the ESHRE Guidelines Development Group, a committee that shapes the future of IVF treatment by publishing guidelines on patient management. Also, he has an active role as one of the reviewers of ESHRE.
Dr Lainas has a rich research work published in world-renowned international scientific journals. He is often an invited speaker and Chair at many International and Greek Conferences and he also presides at and signs a number of scientific announcements. He is the author of books on infertility and a reviewer of leading International Scientific Journals.
He graduated from the University of Athens Medical School and got his specialty in Obstetrics – Gynecology in London (2010-2016), at some of the most important hospitals in England (St. Batholomew’s IVF Center for Reproductive Medicine, King’s Hospital New, Hospital, Barts NHS Trust University Hospital). His training focused on Assisted Reproduction, Reproductive Endocrinology and Laparoscopic Surgery.

- Dr Lainas is the elected Coordinator of Reproductive Endocrinology Special Interest Group (SIG) of ESHRE.
- He has also served as a Junior and Senior Deputy of the SIG Reproductive Endocrinology of ESHRE from 2014 until 2018.
- He is actively involved in the preparations of the proposals for ESHRE’s pre-congress courses (PCC) as well as campus workshops (CWS) organized by the SIG Reproductive Endocrinology. He is also involved in the new ESHRE website and its e-campus platform. Also participated at the ESHRE Junior Deputies Task Force for contributing in the future of ESHRE.
- He is also a member of the Guideline Development Group of Ovarian Stimulation and also a member of the European committee for the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) in Ovarian Stimulation.
Training & Studies:
- Dr George Lainas, MD, PhD completed the first part of his undergraduate studies at the University of Insubria Medical School, Varese, Italy and then he studied at the University of Athens Medical School where he obtained his Medical Degree from.
- He completed his PhD thesis is on “GnRH agonist for triggering final oocyte maturation” and obtained his doctorate from the Aristotle University Medical School (Thessaloniki, Greece) under the supervision of Dr Stratis Kolibianakis, one of the experts in human reproduction.
- He received training at the Kings College University Hospital, London, UK at the department of Fetal Medicine and worked for the Fetal Medicine Foundation under the supervision of renowned Professor of Fetal Medicine, Dr Kypros Nicolaides.
- Basic Obstetrics and Gynecology training was undertaken at the Royal London University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust, London, UK. Later, he trained in Reproductive Medicine at St Bartholomews Hospital, Unit of Reproductive Medicine, London UK.

My experience at the Evgonia unit was excellent. The entire process of egg cryopreservation was carried out with very good communication and constant guidance at every stage. Even though I live outside of Athens, our communication was always easy and effective, which made the whole process much more comfortable and less stressful. With great gratitude, we would like to share our experience at the IVF center. From the very first moment, we felt that we were in very professional and experienced hands. The entire team — from the secretariat, the midwives, the doctors and the embryologists — stood by us with genuine interest and a human approach. They were always willing to listen to us, guide us and give us valuable advice at every stage of the process. At every step, we had full information and support, which gave us strength and optimism, even in the most difficult moments. We started with an insemination and then proceeded to IVF, where we initially had a biochemical pregnancy. Nevertheless, with the guidance and support of the team, we continued with faith and finally, with the second attempt, we managed to achieve the long-awaited positive result. We would like to thank the whole team and especially our doctor K. Tryfon, the midwives Dimitra, Liliana, Emmanuela, our embryologist Rodopi and our secretary Sofia for their professionalism, patience, care and human attitude. A big thank you to these people who staff this center.....!!!!! It was a difficult experience for me (I guess for every woman who enters this process) but next to these people you have nothing to fear...!!!! The girls are all wonderful....they really made me feel safe and calm...!!! My midwives who were by my side in all the difficult moments and answered all my questions.... Finally a big thank you to my doctor Mr. Tryfonas Lainas who with his knowledge and professionalism we achieved this result...!!!!
