Venipuncture for PSA and free PSA tests can leave a small bruise at the draw site. The lower abdominal ultrasound is non-invasive and requires a full bladder, which causes pressure or urgency. A digital rectal exam performed as part of the urology assessment causes brief discomfort and, in rare cases, minor rectal bleeding. PSA values can rise transiently after the rectal exam, so blood is drawn before it.

What to Expect
On the day of the appointment, present at the Check-Up Department with a full bladder for the lower abdomen ultrasound. Blood samples for PSA and free PSA are drawn first, before the digital rectal examination, since the rectal exam can transiently elevate PSA values. The urology clinical examination, lower-abdomen ultrasound and ultrasound interpretation follow. When the basic package is added, the venous draw is expanded and the ECG is performed and reviewed by a cardiologist.
Duration
Approximately two hours, completed in a single visit. When the basic package is added, allow approximately one additional hour.
