Service Summary

Laparoscopic myomectomy is the minimally invasive surgical removal of uterine fibroids through small abdominal incisions, performed as a fertility-preserving alternative to hysterectomy.

Possible Side Effects

Common short-term effects include post-operative abdominal pain and bloating, shoulder-tip pain from residual gas, transient vaginal spotting and fatigue. Less common but serious risks include bleeding requiring transfusion, infection of the surgical sites, injury to surrounding structures (bladder, bowel, ureter, blood vessels), conversion to open surgery if laparoscopic access is unsafe, venous thromboembolism, and reactions to anaesthesia. Long-term, new fibroids can develop and there is a small risk of adhesions; if pregnancy follows, obstetric care should account for the prior uterine surgery (a Caesarean delivery may be recommended). Disclose all current medications (especially blood thinners), known allergies, prior abdominal or pelvic surgery, any history of endometriosis or pelvic infection, and any anaesthesia complications when you book.
