Service Summary
Laparoscopic hysterectomy is the minimally invasive surgical removal of the uterus through small abdominal incisions, offering faster recovery and less scarring than open hysterectomy.
Possible Side Effects
Common short-term effects include post-operative abdominal pain and bloating, vaginal spotting or light bleeding for several weeks, shoulder-tip pain from residual gas, fatigue, and emotional adjustment in the weeks following surgery. Less common but serious risks include bleeding, surgical-site infection, injury to surrounding structures (bladder, bowel, ureter, blood vessels), venous thromboembolism, conversion to open surgery if laparoscopic access is unsafe, and reactions to anaesthesia. Long-term, removal of the uterus ends menstruation and fertility; depending on whether the ovaries are also removed, hormonal changes and menopause-related symptoms may follow. Disclose all current medications (especially blood thinners), known allergies, prior abdominal surgery, any history of pelvic infection or endometriosis, and any anaesthesia complications when you book.
