Service Summary

Hemodialysis is a life-sustaining treatment that filters waste, excess salts and fluid from the blood when the kidneys can no longer do so adequately on their own.

Possible Side Effects

The most common side effects of a hemodialysis session are low blood pressure, muscle cramps, nausea, headache, fatigue and itching, all of which are usually transient and managed during the session by the nephrology and nursing team. Vascular access complications (clotting, infection, bleeding from a fistula or graft, catheter-related bloodstream infection) can occur and require prompt attention. Long-term hemodialysis is also associated with anaemia, bone-mineral disturbances, cardiovascular strain and the practical burden of a treatment schedule of multiple sessions per week — these are managed by your home nephrology team. Always travel with a recent dialysis prescription, current serology and the contact details of your home unit.

Why do Hemodialysis at Iasys Clinic?

Overview

Pre-arranged hemodialysis at Iasys Clinic in Athens, supervised by Dr. Ilias Tsoutsos, Nephrologist, on Gambro technology equipment. An isolated room is available for seropositive patients. Full English coordination, no waiting list. Part of Greece’s largest dialysis network. Available as a single travel-friendly session or as a multi-session travel program (1 Week / 3 sessions or 2 Weeks / 6 sessions), with the travel program designed for dialysis patients wishing to travel to and enjoy Athens worry-free.

What is Included

All three variants include:

  • Pre-arranged hemodialysis session(s) on Gambro hemodialysis technology equipment, including consumables.
  • Isolated room for seropositive patients (where required).
  • Nephrologist supervision by Dr. Ilias Tsoutsos.
  • Nursing care throughout each session.
  • English-language coordination and communication.
  • Session summary report in English (per session for travel programs).

Dialysis Travel Program (1 Week and 2 Weeks variants) additionally include:

  • Pre-arranged scheduling to fit the patient’s travel itinerary (typically Monday / Wednesday / Friday or equivalent).
  • Coordination with the patient’s home dialysis unit before, during and after the visit.
What to Expect

Before the visit: patients must provide their dialysis prescription, recent laboratory results (renal panel, CBC, ferritin, PTH) and serology results prior to booking. For travel-program variants, the contact details of the home dialysis unit are also required so that sessions can be pre-arranged to fit the travel schedule. Patients should arrive 15 minutes before each scheduled session. During the visit: sessions are conducted under nephrologist supervision using Gambro technology. Seropositive patients are accommodated in an isolated room. Duration per session: typically 3.5 to 4 hours as per individual prescription. For the 1-Week Travel Program, 3 sessions are performed over 7 days (typically Monday / Wednesday / Friday or equivalent). For the 2-Week Travel Program, 6 sessions are performed over 14 days (typically the same Monday / Wednesday / Friday pattern repeated). After each session: post-session monitoring continues until the patient is stable. Full English session reports are provided. For travel-program variants, coordination with the home dialysis unit is available throughout and after the visit.

Duration

Per session — typically 3.5 to 4 hours as per individual dialysis prescription. Total programme length depends on variant: Single Session = 1 session; 1-Week Travel Program = 3 sessions over 7 days; 2-Week Travel Program = 6 sessions over 14 days.

Cancellation Policy

Full refund for cancellations made up to 48 hours before the scheduled session (or, for travel programs, before the first scheduled session). No refund for cancellations within 48 hours.
