Possible Side Effects
CT imaging uses ionising radiation; the cumulative dose for a chest plus abdomen/pelvis study is low and the diagnostic benefit normally outweighs the risk, but the exam should be avoided in pregnancy unless clinically essential. When iodinated contrast is administered intravenously, you may feel a brief warm sensation, a metallic taste or the urge to urinate; uncommonly, contrast can cause an allergic reaction or affect kidney function. As a screening service the package does not treat any condition — its purpose is to flag findings that may require further specialist work-up, occasionally leading to additional tests and follow-up costs not covered in the original package. Disclose known allergies, kidney disease, diabetes, asthma, thyroid disease, current medications and the possibility of pregnancy when you book.
