Athens Hyperbaric Diving Medicine in Marousi offers advanced Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for healing, recovery, and various medical conditions.
Operating since 2009, Athens Hyperbaric Diving Medicine is a specialized center located at Granikou 5 in Marousi, Athens, dedicated to Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine. The facility possesses extensive experience in the field and emphasizes its commitment to leveraging advanced technology alongside a patient-focused approach.
Central to its operations is an ultra-modern, multi-user, latest-generation decompression chamber. This technology enables patients to breathe oxygen under significantly increased atmospheric pressure, a process that allows up to 20 times more oxygen to dissolve directly into the blood plasma compared to normal conditions. This enhanced oxygen saturation is key to improving delivery to tissues, particularly those affected by poor blood flow due to swelling, inflammation, or vascular problems.
The clinic’s stated mission is to provide outstanding, individualized service. It focuses on carefully monitoring patient progress throughout the treatment course to ensure tangible improvements are seen and felt. Beyond the tailored clinical care, the center guarantees a relaxing and positive environment for patients, facilitated by efficient processes such as fast appointment confirmation. The clinic highlights its foundation in knowledge, adherence to high specifications, technological capabilities, and a sense of responsibility and sensitivity towards patient needs. The center reports achieving top success rates internationally and receiving European acclaim for its work in hyperbaric medicine.
The primary service offered is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). This involves the medical administration of 100% oxygen within a chamber pressurized to a level greater than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA). The increased pressure bypasses the usual limitations of red blood cell oxygen transport, allowing large amounts of oxygen to dissolve into the blood plasma. This mechanism yields a range of positive physiological, biochemical, and cellular effects, significantly boosting oxygen levels in all body organs. HBOT is particularly effective in delivering oxygen to areas with compromised perfusion, thereby optimizing treatment outcomes, limiting tissue damage, and accelerating healing and recovery processes across various internal medicine and surgical conditions. A standard treatment session typically lasts 90 minutes, during which the patient breathes normally inside the hyperbaric chamber.
The clinic applies HBOT to address a wide spectrum of conditions, leveraging its benefits for specific therapeutic goals:
Key personnel involved in service delivery include Dr. Pavlos Vavasis, an MD with a PhD specializing in Hyperbaric Diving Medicine who serves as the Medical Director, and Kyriakos Kourentzis, a Physical Therapist with expertise in Physical Therapy, TRX, and Aqua Training. The presence of both medical hyperbaric expertise and physical therapy capabilities suggests the potential for integrated treatment plans, particularly beneficial for conditions involving physical rehabilitation alongside HBOT.

A list of the most asked questions about this care center:
HBOT is the medical use of breathing 100% oxygen within a chamber pressurized higher than normal sea-level pressure. This increased pressure allows more oxygen to dissolve directly into the blood plasma, enhancing oxygen delivery throughout the body, particularly to areas with compromised circulation, which promotes healing and recovery.
The clinic uses HBOT for conditions including Stroke, Sports Injuries, Radiation Tissue Damage, Osteomyelitis, Long Covid, Fibromyalgia, recovery from Cosmetic Surgery, Bone Marrow Edema, Anti-Aging, Multiple Sclerosis, Migraines, and Cerebral Palsy.
A typical treatment session lasts for 90 minutes.
Excellent professionals, one of a kind. In a supraspinatus tendon repair surgery, healing and rehabilitation occurred much earlier than expected. Wonderful space and very warm environment. Thank you very much for everything.
Simply no. It's not for every type of treatment and the guy, as soon as he saw an opportunity to make money, ate it up, knowing full well that the whole process I was forced to follow wouldn't help anything.
Excellent person and doctor who is supported by a great team, with deep knowledge of the subject. I have a diagnosis of spastic quadriplegia with a predominance of the right side, a consequence of a N.M. injury. My disability rate from the KEPA is 80%. Halfway through the first set of treatment (30 total) my right leg, which until then I was dragging, was able to lift it with my own strength at a 90° angle.!!!! 3 years have passed since then. By doing an annual maintenance, I continue to see improvements. Sometimes small, sometimes a little smaller. But for someone whose initial prognosis was the bed or at best the wheelchair, the fact that I go fishing alone I consider that I should enjoy the moments that science has given me through the DOCTOR Mr. Vavasis, whom I will always remember.
So far, so good and...fingers crossed... Professionalism at its highest standards!
